What is a .FLP file?
FLP is an FL Studio music project: a binary stream of events, each identified by a one-byte ID whose range implies how long it is. That design is why an FLP can be read for its metadata by anything, but reliably only as far as the events it recognises.

- FL Studio began life as FruityLoops in 1997 and is famous for its lifetime free updates - which is also why FLP files from twenty different versions are all still in circulation.
- FL Studio is made by the Belgian company Image-Line, and its FruityLoops original was the work of sole developer Didier Dambrin.
- An FLP saves the whole arrangement but not the audio samples it references, so projects travel light.

- Identify DAW project files and read what their formats will give up: FL Studio (FLP) has its event stream walked for the FL version, tempo, title, author, genre, comment, pattern and channel names, the plugins it loads and the samples it references - but not its clip positions, which live in data events whose layout varies between FL versions. - .FLP is an identification-grade format: Analyser recognises it from its bytes and decodes the header metadata it carries, rather than opening it in a full viewer. Formats that do get a full viewer are marked "Full" on the formats page.
