What is a .CPR file?

- Cubase dates back to 1989 on the Atari ST, though the .cpr extension only arrived with Cubase SX in 2002 - earlier versions saved .all and .arr files.
- The CPR project format arrived with Cubase SX in 2002, replacing the earlier .all song and .arr arrangement files.
- Steinberg nearly called the program Cubit, but renamed it Cubase before its Atari ST launch to avoid clashing with a database product.

- Identify DAW project files and read what their formats will give up: FL Studio (FLP) has its event stream walked for the FL version, tempo, title, author, genre, comment, pattern and channel names, the plugins it loads and the samples it references - but not its clip positions, which live in data events whose layout varies between FL versions. - .CPR is an identification-grade format: Analyser recognises it from its bytes and decodes the header metadata it carries, rather than opening it in a full viewer. Formats that do get a full viewer are marked "Full" on the formats page.
