What is a .MP+ file?
MP+ is a Musepack audio file - a lossy codec built for high-quality music at higher bitrates, part of the same family as .mpc.

- Musepack grew out of the MP2 format and was prized by audiophiles for transparency at bitrates where MP3 still showed artefacts.
- Musepack began in 1997 as MPEGplus, built by Andree Buschmann on the MPEG-1 Layer II encoder, which is where the plus in .mp+ comes from.
- Musepack targets transparency at around 160 to 180 kbps rather than tiny files, so it was never aimed at portable players the way MP3 was.

- .MP+ is an identification-grade format: Analyser recognises it from its bytes and decodes the header metadata it carries, rather than opening it in a full viewer. Formats that do get a full viewer are marked "Full" on the formats page.
