What is a .S3M file?
S3M is the module format of Scream Tracker 3.

- Scream Tracker 3 and its S3M format were released by Future Crew in 1994.
- S3M succeeded Scream Tracker 2’s simpler STM format, adding up to 32 channels and richer playback effects.
- Uniquely for its day, S3M could mix digital samples with AdLib OPL2 FM-synth instruments in the same tune.

- Play and analyse tracker modules - MOD, XM, IT, S3M and around sixty relatives from the demoscene and the Amiga and DOS eras. A module is not recorded audio: it is a bank of instrument samples plus a pattern score saying which sample to trigger, on which channel, at which row, so playing one means running a tracker engine.
