What is a .IDEA file?
IDEA is the project and profile format of ideaMaker, the slicer made by 3D-printer maker Raise3D. It holds a sliced model and its print settings, or an exported printer or filament profile.
- Did you know
- ideaMaker writes a plain "IDEA - MAKER" signature at the start of the file, then keeps the rest in its own compressed binary; exported profiles use the sister "IEDA - PROFILE" marker.
- ideaMaker is the free slicer from 3D-printer maker Raise3D, turning a 3D model into the layered toolpaths a printer follows.
- Slicing converts a solid 3D model into G-code, deciding layer height, infill and supports - the settings an .idea project stores.
- What Analyser reads
- Identify 3D and 3D-printing files: FBX, USD/USDZ, Blender (BLEND), Raise3D ideaMaker projects and print profiles (IDEA) and Zortrax Z-SUITE compiled prints (ZCODE). A Blender scene saved with preview images gives up the thumbnail it stored, so you can see what the scene looked like without opening Blender. OBJ, PLY, OFF, 3MF, AMF and glTF/GLB get a full 3D viewer - see the 3D model section.
- Depth of analysis
- .IDEA is an identification-grade format: Analyser recognises it from its bytes and decodes the header metadata it carries, rather than opening it in a full viewer. Formats that do get a full viewer are marked "Full" on the formats page.
- Open a .IDEA file
- Drag a .IDEA file onto the Analyser home page (or tap to pick one). It is identified entirely in your browser - nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and it works offline once installed.
