What is a .Book file?

A .book file ties together the chapters of an Adobe FrameMaker book.

Did you know
  • A FrameMaker book file lists its component documents and stores the pagination and numbering rules that knit them into one publication.
  • It can also hold generated files such as a table of contents and index, and even nest child books to build large documentation sets.
  • FrameMaker, born in the 1980s on Unix workstations, became the tool of choice for long technical manuals, and the .book file is how those manuals are assembled.
What Analyser reads
Identify and read more document, e-book and publishing files: Scribus (.sla/.scd version, pages, fonts), MS Works and Windows Write, Word 97 templates (.dot), StarOffice 5.x binary docs, Shanda Bambook and Sony BBeB (.lrf/.lrx) e-books, FrameMaker, document templates and legacy PageMaker.
Depth of analysis
.Book is an identification-grade format: Analyser recognises it from its bytes and decodes the header metadata it carries, rather than opening it in a full viewer. Formats that do get a full viewer are marked "Full" on the formats page.
Open a .Book file
Drag a .Book file onto the Analyser home page (or tap to pick one). It is identified entirely in your browser - nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and it works offline once installed.
