What is a .Numbers file?
A Numbers file is a spreadsheet from Apple’s iWork suite. Created and opened by Apple Numbers.

- A modern .numbers file is really a single ZIP archive of internal pieces (older iWork versions used a macOS bundle - a folder presented as one document).
- With iWork ’13 Apple rebuilt the format around Snappy-compressed Protocol Buffer messages, replacing the earlier XML-based contents.
- What Analyser shows you
- Open Apple iWork documents - Pages (word processing and page layout), Numbers (spreadsheets) and Keynote (presentations, .key) - by showing the QuickLook preview Apple embeds in the file: a PDF rendered page by page, or the preview image. Reads the document type and the iWork app version that wrote it. The document body itself is stored in Apple’s undocumented Snappy / Protocol-Buffer .iwa format, which is not re-rendered.

- .Numbers is a partial-analysis format: Analyser opens it and shows the embedded preview or thumbnail and the metadata it can read, but the real editable content stays in the application's proprietary format and is not reconstructed in the browser. Formats with a complete viewer are marked "Full" on the formats page.
