What is a .WPL file?

WPL is the native playlist format of Windows Media Player.

Did you know
  • WPL is the playlist Windows Media Player saves your music queues as.
  • A WPL file is built on the XML-based SMIL standard and merely points at your media files, holding no actual audio or video itself.
  • Because WPL only references your media by file path rather than embedding it, moving the playlist away from those files usually breaks it.
What Analyser reads

Depth of analysis
.WPL is an identification-grade format: Analyser recognises it from its bytes and decodes the header metadata it carries, rather than opening it in a full viewer. Formats that do get a full viewer are marked "Full" on the formats page.
Open a .WPL file
Drag a .WPL file onto the Analyser home page (or tap to pick one). It is identified entirely in your browser - nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and it works offline once installed.
