Analyse a .OLD file

What is a .OLD file?

.OLD is a file in the Electronics, runtime & backups (more) category. Analyser identifies it and reads the metadata in its header, right in your browser.

Did you know
  • A .old file is a backup copy, the convention of renaming a file with .old before replacing it so the previous version can be restored.
  • Installers and configuration tools often rename the file they are about to overwrite to .old as a safety net.
  • Because the extension is generic, the real contents could be anything - removing the .old usually restores the original name.
What Analyser reads
Identify runtime, electronics and backup files: Unreal third-party software notices (.tps), ASP.NET browser definitions (.browser), Python extension modules (.pyd DLLs), ICU internationalisation data (.icu), Proteus Design Suite backups (.pdsbak) and generic backup copies (.bak / .old).
Depth of analysis
.OLD is an identification-grade format: Analyser recognises it from its bytes and decodes the header metadata it carries, rather than opening it in a full viewer. Formats that do get a full viewer are marked "Full" on the formats page.
Open a .OLD file
Drag a .OLD file onto the Analyser home page (or tap to pick one). It is identified entirely in your browser - nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and it works offline once installed.
