What is a .LOTTIE file?
A Lottie file is a small JSON-based vector animation that plays on web and mobile. The format came out of Hernan Torrisi’s open-source Bodymovin plugin for After Effects.

- Hernan Torrisi created the format in 2015 with his Bodymovin plugin; Airbnb gave it the Lottie name and shipped the mobile players in 2017.
- Lottie is named after Charlotte “Lotte” Reiniger, a German pioneer of silhouette animation.
- Lottie grew out of the Bodymovin plugin, which exports Adobe After Effects animations as the JSON that Lottie players render.

- Decode and preview extra still-image formats in pure JavaScript - Truevision TGA, QOI, Netpbm (PPM/PGM/PBM), PCX, farbfeld, WBMP, XBM/XPM, Sun Raster and SGI are fully rendered - and read header metadata from codec-heavy formats: Radiance HDR, DirectDraw Surface (DDS) game textures, OpenEXR, JPEG 2000, JPEG XR, EPS/PostScript (including the preview image the authoring program stored inside the file - the TIFF a DOS EPS header points at, or an EPSI hexadecimal bitmap), Windows WMF/EMF metafiles, Apple ICNS icons, CUR/ANI cursors, MNG and Lottie animations.

- .LOTTIE is an identification-grade format: Analyser recognises it from its bytes and decodes the header metadata it carries, rather than opening it in a full viewer. Formats that do get a full viewer are marked "Full" on the formats page.
