What is a .GS file?
GS is a GLSL geometry shader - an optional GPU stage that can create or discard whole primitives such as points, lines and triangles on the fly. The same extension is also used for Google Apps Script.

- A geometry shader can output more vertices than it receives, generating geometry like fur or particles directly on the GPU; it was added to OpenGL in version 3.2 (2009).
- Geometry shaders sit between the vertex and fragment stages and are used sparingly, because they can be slower than alternatives such as instancing.
- Because .gs is also used for Google Apps Script, the file contents - GLSL versus JavaScript - are what really tell the two apart.

- .GS is an identification-grade format: Analyser recognises it from its bytes and decodes the header metadata it carries, rather than opening it in a full viewer. Formats that do get a full viewer are marked "Full" on the formats page.
