What is a .ASS file?
ASS (Advanced SubStation Alpha) is a styled subtitle format supporting fonts, colours and positioning. Edited with Aegisub.

- ASS grew out of the anime fansubbing scene in the early 2000s, extending the older SSA format.
- ASS stands for Advanced SubStation Alpha, the version 4+ successor to the older SubStation Alpha (SSA) script format.
- It supports karaoke timing through tags that mark each syllable’s duration, a feature heavily used for sing-along effects.
- Beyond styling, ASS can position and animate text and even draw vector shapes, blurring the line between subtitles and on-screen graphics.
- A .ASS file is plain text, so you can open and edit it in any text editor.
- What Analyser shows you
- Parse subtitle cues and timing from SubRip (SRT), WebVTT, ASS/SSA, MicroDVD and SubViewer (.sub): cue count, on-screen time, and a full timed cue list. MicroDVD frame timings are converted to time using the declared or assumed frame rate; binary VobSub .sub image subtitles are identified.
